Expertise with Adults (see below for children): In her clinical work with adults, Dr. Imbraguglio has worked with clients with a wide variety of common concerns including depression and mood disturbances in general, anxiety, couple’s issues, physical symptoms of stress, family and peer relationships, assertiveness, weight issues, substance use, and life transitions to include general concerns about various life planning and decision making issues. In addition, she has extensive experience in working with survivors of trauma, to include adult sexual trauma, adult survivors of child sexual abuse, and post-traumatic stress disorder in both veterans and non-veterans. Her clinical work with adults also includes conducting comprehensive psychological, educational, and substance abuse assessments. Building on her interest in couple’s issues, her dissertation examined how people in relationships respond to changes in their partner’s interpersonal approach. In addition, she participated with other psychologists in research on couple’s and family issues, designing studies examining aggression and power in intimate partners, and analyzing videotapes of family and couples therapy for the constructs of empathy and therapeutic change. Dr. Imbraguglio also worked specifically on anxiety research, collecting data from participants on how anxiety was affected by exposure to negative situations. Other research she participated in included studies of smoking, and a study of mood and sleep. Psychoeducational classes and outreach programs developed and conducted by Dr. Imbraguglio have included the topics of Stress & Anger Management, Substance Abuse, Depression, Suicide Prevention, HIV/STDs, Grief, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Relationship Building, and Trauma.

Dr. Imbraguglio believes therapy is a collaborative process and encourages clients to take an active role in therapy. She is committed to helping clients discover the choices in their lives that can lead to achieving the goals they have set for themselves. She uses cognitive-behavioral and interpersonal techniques as a foundation to help clients with this process, while maintaining a supportive and respectful environment. She is greatly interested in helping individuals engage in positive interpersonal experiences and break through the barriers many people experience - to help them get the very most out of life, and to assist them in reaching their personal goals. In her professional positions she has worked with a very diverse client population with regard to racial, ethnic and socioeconomic backgrounds. Dr. Imbraguglio is committed to making therapy or evaluation a positive and helpful experience for all of her clients.

Expertise with Children: Dr. Imbraguglio’s work with children and teens also spans assessment, therapy, and research. She has extensive experience in conducting psychoeducational evaluations across the academic spectrum, to include evaluating for learning disabilities and AD/HD as well as gifted children and adolescents. In addition to conducting the assessments, her work in the schools involved performing behavioral observations in classroom settings, and attending special education meetings to report evaluation results to teachers and administrators and to advocate for the child as needed. She has also conducted comprehensive psychological and behavioral assessments for children and adolescents to aid in differential diagnosis, treatment recommendations, and determinations of adoption readiness. Dr. Imbraguglio has experience working with children and adolescents with a variety of common teen and childhood issues such as depression, anxiety, dealing with divorce, behavior problems, problems with peers, social problems, AD/HD, family and school difficulties, shyness, aggression, Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD), substance use, bi-polar, body image concerns, and Asperger's. Her experience extends to working with parents and families as well, to include parent coaching and family therapy. Having worked on a children’s crisis stabilization unit with clients between 5-17 years of age who were a threat to themselves or someone else, she is also well equipped to assist parents in de-escalation techniques, as well as teaching children how to self-regulate emotions. Dr. Imbraguglio’s research includes working as a Clinical Analyst on the Pediatric Psychopharmacology Research Unit at a large hospital, and she has authored, for professional journals and presentations, articles on common executive function deficits in girls and boys with AD/HD, screening for executive function deficits in AD/HD and non-AD/HD youth, and determining if individual tests of executive functions predict performance on an executive function battery for all children.

Her warmth, friendly demeanor, and natural connection with children and teenagers make Dr. Nicole (as she is called by the kids) a favorite among children and parents.
