Kathryn Ezzell
Kathryn Ezzell provides individual therapy for all ages, having worked across the lifespan with toddlers to seniors, and also offers couples and family therapy. She works with all diagnoses. Kathryn began her educational journey completing a Bachelor of Science in Psychology, then worked in higher education and ministry for several years, where she gained critical skills in listening, conflict resolution, development, creating meaningful change, and navigating emotional challenges. She is currently completing a M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and is a clinical intern at Lepage Associates.
As a former education professional, Kathryn believes strongly in early interventions and meeting the child or teen where they are by considering the developmental level and life stage of the individual. With children and teens of all ages, she provides therapy for a broad array of issues that can present from early childhood into adulthood, such as depression, general anxiety, social anxiety, school anxiety, sibling conflict, parent-child relationship struggles, oppositional behavior, conduct issues, academic struggles, learning differences, attention deficit, healthy lifestyle (diet, weight management, and movement), and supportive therapy for life changes such as moving or divorce. With children, Kathryn utilizes creative and play therapy activities to help with self-understanding, expression, relational connections, problem-solving, and meeting developmentally appropriate needs.
Kathryn strives to create a relaxed, comfortable environment where clients can feel free to be their true selves and speak candidly about their lives. She utilizes an integrated approach to therapy and intervention, incorporating elements from models such as person-centered, cognitive-behavioral (CBT), and acceptance and commitment (ACT) therapies, solution-focused brief therapy, and psychodynamic therapy with an emphasis on attachment. She views each client as unique and thus seeks to gain an in-depth understanding of the client’s life and experiences and how they impact current difficulties, in order to get to the root of the problem, and tailors her therapy approach to best suit each client’s needs. Kathryn believes in the role of trust in a strong client-therapist relationship; she consistently works from a non-judgmental and empathetic mindset, and works collaboratively with clients to understand presenting concerns, identify goals to meet individual needs, and to develop skills leading to more adaptive functioning and improved quality of life. Kathryn also incorporates spirituality, religion, or worldview into therapy when these elements are important to her clients; she most values her clients’ own perspective and goals and will integrate the personal values they choose to bring to their work.
Kathryn works with clients of all ages experiencing a broad range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, attention difficulties, bipolar, trauma, substance use, relationship difficulties, life transitions, social skills, self-confidence issues, self-esteem, identity development, and parenting concerns, to name a few. She provides brief treatment or long-term treatment depending on the presenting area of concern. Katryn assesses social and emotional needs, helping clients identify and work toward values-based goals. One of her more specialized experiences include grief-work; Kathryn has a heart for walking with individuals who have suffered loss. Another specialized area is that of sex and intimacy; Kathryn has received additional training around matters of sex and intimacy and is interested in working with individuals and couples who would like to address their sexuality, whether the emphasis is on individual behavior change, individual exploration, or growing as a couple.
