Kevin Metz, Psy.D.
Dr. Kevin Metz specializes in working with couples and has extensive experience helping partners strengthen communication, deepen emotional connection, and address long-standing relational patterns. His work includes both premarital counseling and support for couples navigating complex challenges such as intimacy concerns, communication breakdowns, commitment issues, sexual difficulties, conflict escalation, and external stressors affecting the relationship.
At the beginning of couples therapy, Dr. Metz takes an active role in assessing interaction patterns and coaching partners in more effective communication strategies. As couples build these skills, his role often shifts toward facilitation, allowing partners to engage more directly with one another in a safe, respectful, and supportive environment. He approaches each relationship with neutrality, honoring the individual needs of each partner while also attending to the health of the relationship itself.
Dr. Metz’s couples work is informed by family systems theory and evidence-based relational models, drawing from the work of Don Baucum, Salvador Minuchin, and John and Julie Gottman, with whom he has trained. He works with couples from diverse backgrounds and welcomes same-sex couples, encouraging partners to move toward more authentic, meaningful, and fulfilling relationships.
In addition to his work with couples, Dr. Metz has extensive experience working with adolescents and their families. He is deeply familiar with the developmental, emotional, and relational challenges that arise during the teenage years and supports teens as they navigate identity development, autonomy, and family relationships. His research on authenticity strongly informs his work with adolescents, helping them develop a clearer sense of self while maintaining healthy connections with others.
Dr. Metz works with adolescents facing a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, body image issues, social difficulties, self-esteem challenges, defiant behavior, and substance use concerns. He also provides psychological and psychoeducational assessments for teenagers to support a deeper understanding of their emotional, behavioral, and learning-related needs.
Dr. Metz assists couples, families, and children navigating separation and divorce. He has significant experience helping children and adolescents process family transitions while maintaining a healthy sense of self. He also provides parent guidance to support the development of stable, supportive households following divorce, with a focus on reducing stress and fostering long-term emotional wellbeing for all family members.
