Lindsey Ohler, Psy.D.

Dr. Lindsey Ohler is a Licensed Psychologist; she has a doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from Xavier University in Cincinnati, OH and has worked with children, adolescents, and adults. Dr. Ohler has practiced in a variety of settings including private practice, businesses, community mental health centers, the juvenile court system, college counseling centers, inpatient facilities, outpatient hospitals, and a clinical research lab investigating the neurocircuitry of eating disorders. With Lepage Associates for over 10 years, she also serves as the Clinical Services Director. After many years of providing therapy and evaluations for all ages, her current focus is primarily on evaluations, though she continues to see a small number of therapy clients.

Dr. Ohler has extensive training and experience completing psychological, educational, neuropsychological, and forensic assessments with children and adults of all ages. She has conducted psychological and neuropsychological evaluations assessing emotional functioning, mood issues, eating habits, suicide and self-injury, and executive functioning to include ADHD, LD, and ASD. Dr. Ohler is highly competent in assessing intellectual and adaptive abilities, personality, diagnosis, emotional functioning, behavioral functioning, eating behaviors, body image concerns and self-injurious behaviors. In additional to the more standard psychological and educational assessments, her specialty experience has included psychological evaluations of children and adolescents at an inpatient facility and autism spectrum evaluations of children at Cincinnati Children’s Hospital as well as dispositional, bind over and competency-to-stand trial evaluations in the juvenile court system. Dr. Ohler then expanded her evaluation expertise to the juvenile court system where she conducted psychological, dispositional, bind-over and competency-to-strand-trial evaluations. Her experience testing adults was gained in private practice and business settings.

As one of our resident forensic psychologists, Dr. Ohler has extensive experience in family, civil, and criminal court. She has been qualified as an expert witness in family, civil and criminal court several times, and has provided deposition and testimony in numerous cases. She often provides expert consultation for attorneys on clinical issues (e.g., child development and child custody, child sexual development, autism spectrum disorder, childhood mental health disorders, and adult mental health disorders, etc.). Her forensic evaluation experience includes psychological, parental capacity, child custody, substance abuse, risk assessments, competency of affairs, competency to stand trial, fitness-for duty, and disability benefits evaluations, to name a few. An additional area of specialty has included conducting psychological, dispositional, bind-over, and competency-to-stand trial evaluations in the juvenile court system. Dr. Ohler can identify how environmental, familial, cultural and social factors influence individuals while identifying risk and protective factors for predicting future criminal involvement. Dr. Ohler is well-known for creating a calming clinical interview environment, easing the client’s mind while undergoing rigorous forensic evaluations. In addition to her role as an evaluator and consultant for court-related cases, she also provides parent coaching for families involved with the courts, to include addressing tough issues such as custody schedule, hands-off discipline, anger management, intimate partner violence, the impact of infidelity on families, and a range of other high conflict divorce issues. She helps individuals develop coping skills to manage their feelings during the transition period, and assists parents establish effective communication styles to use with one another as well as their children.

Dr. Ohler’s interest in working with organizations began during her training at the Veterans Health Administration National Center for Organization when she was part of a research team that utilized qualitative and quantitative methods to investigate multiple variables that influenced employee engagement, satisfaction and retention. She has worked in both public and private sectors conducting program evaluations. Dr. Ohler applies the science of psychology and her expertise in human behavior to her work with businesses and organizations, believing that an organization’s most valuable asset is its employees. As a consultant, Dr. Ohler has co-facilitated leadership and manager development programs as well as annual strategy meetings to align business goals. She has individually coached professionals on attaining work-life balance, assertively communicating with direct reports and bosses, managing conflict in toxic environments, improving teamwork, and addressing any remaining elephants in the room. Dr. Ohler utilizes a hands-on approach to coaching engagements that ensures professionals not only have the necessary skills and knowledge for handling problems, but also the interpersonal finesse for applying these skills to their everyday lives. She is competent in 360 Survey and Leadership Assessments receiving Assess Systems™ Core Certification in 2015.

Dr. Ohler has an active research career with multiple conference presentations and is published in the Casebook of Evidence-Based of Eating Disorders. Dr. Ohler has investigated and provided therapy for clients with body image concerns and disordered eating. Her doctoral dissertation evaluated how young adults perceived varying female body shapes in the absence of aesthetic beauty. Dr. Ohler has also served as a therapist and assessor in clinical research investigations evaluating therapeutic approaches for addressing disordered eating. In another area of research, she has research and consultation experience in both government and private sectors, completing program evaluations of community services, coaching and facilitating leadership development of managers, and conducting research on workplace environments.

Dr. Ohler spends her time exploring new areas by bicycling and hiking around the Triangle. She enjoys attending cultural events such as galleries, concerts and art fairs. Her creative passion is designing and creating stained glass panels and novelties for friends and family.
